- F. Bruni two stars the popular East Village Italian Perbacco. I’ve been here many times but apparently there is a new, young, Italian chef of which Bruni muses “something is indeed happening here” calling Perbacco “experimental, Lupa meets WD-50″. SOLD. [NYT]

- Platty one stars Jean-Georges favorite Matsugen. Calls it “tepid, non–Jean-Georges cooking”. I never liked Adam Platt anyways. I’ve made ressies here so this gal will just make the judgment call for herself. [NYMag]

- Julia Moskin finds authentic tacos and Latin fare in the Hamptons. Yet another excuse to forgo those Della Femina reservations. [NYT]

- Jay Cheshes visits Crooklyn and loves my boy James and is disappointed in The General Greene as it “fails to live up to the hype”. Boo. Advantage: James. [TONY]

- Restaurant Girl pays a visit to Convivio, (formerly L’impero) and approves of the “make-under”. [Daily News]

it’s a good week.

- No shocker: Bruni 3 stars Jean-Georges’ Matsugen, says it “spans every facet of a meal”. I’m considering thinking of Matsugen as NYC’s best restaurant.

- Restaurant Girl goes to Brooklyn and pays a visit to my boyfriend James. She approves of him and throws him 3 stars and thinks “if we were all really lucky, we’d all live right around the corner from a place like James.” Well I do. Literally.

- Sietsema also approves of my boy toy James and wonders is he was “dining at some gold-plated Vongerichten, Boulud, or Bouley outpost?”.

- Also for the Voice, Sarah DiGregorio muses on cocktail bars serving snacks and tries out Pegu Club’s new menu as well as Clover Club’s offerings. Thank god Pegu revised the menu, the food was terrible. At least now I will re-consider going back.

- Ed Levine gives an A minus to under-the-radar West Villy Mexican joint, Papatzul. Let me put this out there now: I love this man. I love that he is the only “important” reviewer out there who goes into the trenches and always finds great food. Look at those food porn pics! We all know how I feel about Mexican food (lurve)…

Tonight, husband-and-wife team Deborah Williamson and Bryan Calvert, owners of the events company Williamson Calvert, will open James, a restaurant in their neighborhood of Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. Recognized for producing stellar events for the likes of Vanity Fair, Chanel and Allure, the duo is now setting their own stage in a century-old brownstone, where an inspired yet approachable menu is fused with a stylishly casual setting and warm hospitality. Bryan, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and veteran of Bouley and Union Pacific, offers a selection of seasonal American dishes that reflect old world European influences. First courses such as semolina-crusted zucchini blossoms stuffed with peekytoe crab and crispy sweetbreads with rhubarb-honey glaze lead to a list of main courses that includes pine nut and rosemary-crusted rack of lamb with summer bean stew and a grass-fed beef burger with Cotswald cheese on brioche with herb fries. With the intention of honoring the building’s history, Deborah and Bryan embraced the imperfections of the authentically aged space, which features pressed-tin ceilings, exposed brick wall and original plaster. Oversized mirrors from the original Plaza Hotel and a custom chandelier sourced from the Netherlands add to the restaurant’s charming atmosphere. In addition to the 30-seat dining room, James offers 15 seats in the bar area where guests can sip inventive renditions of classic cocktails.
